On arrival, we will pick you up at the airport in Calama and transport you to San Pedro de Atacama where you will spend the next few nights. San Pedro is historic town and a charming oasis in the otherwise vast desert set against the spectacular backdrop of the Chilean Andes.

On the first day we will visit the Valle de la Luna famous for its sand dunes, spectacular multi-colored badlands, and caverns. On day two we head towards the vast Salt Flats of the Atacama and the high altitude lakes of Miscanti and Miñiques where it's common to see wild animals that live in challenging weather conditions, such as flamingoes and vicuñas and in the distant the giant volcanoes of the Andes. On day 3 you will enjoy a relaxing day in one of two main spots of the high plateau: Puritama hot springs or Cejar lagoon. On day 4 we will bike to the Ayllus, ancient communities created by the Altiplano people who inhabited these desert sites. Day 5 takes us to one of San Pedro's most glorious beauty spots, where we discover incredible untouched landscapes at the Salar de Tara, a fabulous salt lagoon home to astonishing landscapes and a wonderful variety of wildlife. On day 6 we will head over to the Geiser del Tatio (4380m) the world's highest altitude thermal area. It's truly a wonderful experience to walk among the bubbling hot pots and geysers which are set against dark blue skies amidst the vast desert of the Atacama. We will then transfer you to the airport.

Day 1: Calama to San Pedro de Atacama and Moon Valley

We will pick you up at the Calama airport in the morning and drive you to San Pedro de Atacama.

After lunch and a brief rest we offer an afternoon excursion to the Valle de la Luna an area famous for its colored badlands, sand dunes and caverns.
Overnight in San Pedro.

Day 2: Miscanti and Meñiques Lakes, Salt Flats, and The Red Rocks

We will have an early start after breakfast and visit the small oasis town of Toconao with its historic church dating back to the 16th century. We continue from Toconao to the Salt Flats of the Atacama. The salt flats cover a vast area and at times are covered by water that is just a few centimeters in depth. The Salt Flats are famous for the pink wild Flamingoes and views of the Andes in the distance. We will have lunch and then continue on to the lakes of Miscanti and Miñiques (4,220m). The deep blue lake of Miscanti is overshadowed by the giant peak of Cerro Miscanti (5622m / 18445ft).
Overnight in San Pedro.

Day 3: Relaxing and Stargazing

We will start the day with an excursion to the Puritama hot springs or Cejar Lagoon; an oasis in the harsh climate of Atacama Desert. They are the perfect way to relax in San Pedro de Atacama while still enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Atacama Desert Stargazing Experience: Picking you up from your hotel, our guide will take you out to a desert observatory to observe and marvel at the night skies of the Atacama desert. Being just four days after a new moon, the stars will be out in all their glory as our guide explains to you what you're seeing, and of course providing you with a hot drink and a moment in peace to enjoy the stars with.

Day 4: Biking the Ayllus

We begin by pedaling to the outskirts of town where the Ayllu will show us the growth of this very same place in the modern age. We will talk about the first inhabitants, their rights and customs where we will dive deeper in the topic of death which gives way to the next life.

Our next stop is Ayllu de Checar! Here you will find that it is one of the best places in Atacama to stargaze due to the locations calm landscape and quiet surroundings.

Storytelling and unwritten exchanges are how the Licanantay people pass down their legends in which they build their vision of the world on. We’ll pass down these legends at this stop and fill you with an oasis of knowledge. Next, we will visit the Desert Bookstore to taste a juice made from a local fruit and talk about the transition from oral traditions to written.

Day 5: Tara Salt Flats

After time for breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up and take you immediately towards the cordillera and Argentina beyond. Passing the Quepiaco river, we will enjoy the astounding contrast between the fabulously green vegetations of the river basin and the mountains, which make this area a perfect wildlife habitat. On our way we will see flamingoes, ducks and even possible wild hogs.

We will then reach Los Monjes de la Pacana, the Pacana Monks. These are the remains of volcanic sediment eroded over thousands of years by wind and water as well as being testament to volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. In addition to their curious, impressive structure in a magnificent landscape, they really make us contemplate how nature endures and changes over time.

Finally we make our way to the Salar de Tara, one of San Pedro's most astonishingly beautiful sights. We will enjoy a short walk around the edges of the incredible salt lagoon, admiring and learning about the rare flora and fauna and relaxing into a tranquil silence where you could hear a pin drop.

Day 6: Tatio Geiser & Machuca

Today we will get an early start (4am) for the thermal area known as Geiser del Tatio. It's a beautiful landscape of geysers and bubbling hot pots set among the giant volcanoes of the Andes at 4380m. You will have plenty of opportunity to stroll about and talk photos while you enjoy the dramatic landscape. We will return to San Pedro in the early afternoon. Our driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the airport.
